At Legacy-Trees®, we believe that a thriving community starts with healthy trees. That’s why we were thrilled to recently partner with the HOA Leadership Network, and even more delighted when their founder, a fellow Wisconsin native with roots near our home base on Lake Arbutus, asked us to conduct a site visit at his own HOA in Lakeville, Minnesota.

It’s always a pleasure to share our passion for trees, and this visit to Boulder Village Townhome Association was no exception. With 1.5 miles of walking paths winding through beautiful, wooded areas, it’s a testament to the aesthetic and environmental value that trees bring to a community. However, as with many mature landscapes, some common tree issues were present.

During our visit, we walked the grounds, identifying areas where initial planting techniques could have prevented issues that developed over time. We often find that problems like root constriction can be traced back to how a tree was originally set in the ground. These seemingly minor details can lead to significant stress on a tree, impacting its long-term health and vitality.

One of the solutions we champion at Legacy-Trees®, especially for new installations, involves methods that encourage a strong, outward-growing root system. This innovative approach significantly reduces the likelihood of future root problems and promotes a more robust tree from the start.

Beyond initial establishment, the ongoing care of trees is paramount. We discussed the importance of strategic pruning, a thoughtful and informed approach to maintaining tree health and structure, rather than just reactive trimming. It’s about understanding the tree’s natural growth habits and making cuts that promote its long-term well-being and safety.

We invite you to watch the video from our Lakeville site visit (link to be inserted here) to see firsthand some of the issues we identified and the solutions we discussed. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn how to spot potential problems in your own community’s trees.

At Legacy-Trees®, we’re dedicated to helping HOAs cultivate and maintain their greatest natural asset. Let us help you ensure your trees stand tall and healthy for generations.
