Description

Taxodium distichum ‘Shawnee Brave’ / Shawnee Brave™ Bald Cypress

Planting Points: Cultivar selected for its narrow, pyramidal form, making it suitable for tighter landscapes. Bald cypress is a deciduous conifer—needles turn orange-bronze and shed in fall. Extremely tough and adaptable: tolerates flooding, clay soil, drought, and urban conditions. In wet soils, may produce knees (root projections); knees are far less common in upland/dry sites. Strong wood and deep root system give excellent storm resistance. Minimal pruning needed; naturally maintains a formal, symmetrical shape. Fast-growing once established. Resistant to pests and diseases with very low maintenance needs.

Siting This Tree: Ideal for parks, large residential lots, golf courses, and campuses. Excellent for wet areas, pond edges, retention basins, and rain gardens. Works well in urban landscapes, thanks to its narrow form and tolerance for poor soils. Great alternative to evergreens in cold climates because of strong structure and unique texture. Narrow habit makes it suitable for boulevards or street tree use where width is limited. Avoid planting near sidewalks or driveways in wet conditions if knee formation is a concern.
