Description

Betula populifolia ‘Whitespire’ / Whitespire Birch

Planting Points: Known for its clean white bark, especially striking as the tree matures. More bronze birch borer–resistant than many birch species. Fast-growing once established. Requires consistent moisture, especially in hot climates. Mulch to keep the root zone cool and evenly moist. Best planted in cooler soil, avoid hot, exposed urban sites. Minimal pruning needed; prune only in late summer or fall to avoid sap bleed. Performs well in grouped plantings or as a multi-stem specimen.

Siting This Tree: Excellent for northern landscapes, woodland edges, and areas with consistent soil moisture. Attractive near pond edges, lowland plantings, or naturalized areas. Works well as a specimen tree, in clusters, or as a small grove. Ideal for residential landscapes where elegant white bark and light shade are desired. Avoid locations subject to reflected heat (south-facing walls, asphalt).
