Description

Ulmus ‘New Horizon’ / New Horizon Elm

Planting Points: Hybrid elm (U. pumila × U. japonica) developed for excellent Dutch Elm Disease (DED) resistance—one of the most resistant to date. Strong resistance to elm leaf beetles and phloem necrosis. Upright, oval to vase‑shaped habit with dense branching. Moderate to fast growth rate, forming a compact, uniform canopy. Extremely tolerant of urban stresses including pollution, compacted soil, drought, road salt, and heat. Excellent storm resistance—flexible yet strong branching. Prune only in late fall or winter to reduce the risk of elm diseases and maintain clear structure. Establish quickly and perform reliably even in tough sites.

Siting This Tree: Ideal for streetscapes, boulevards, parking lots, and commercial landscapes. Great for residential yards where a medium-sized, durable elm is desired. Perfect for urban planting pits or challenging soils. Works well in parks, campuses, and open lawns due to its uniform shape. Avoid chronically wet soils; periodic moisture is fine.
