Description

Cornus sericea / Red Twig Dogwood

Planting Points: Known for its bright red winter stems, providing outstanding cold‑season interest. Produces clusters of white spring flowers followed by white‑blue berries attractive to birds. Very hardy and tolerant of challenging sites, including wet soils, clay, and restoration landscapes. For strongest stem color: remove one-third of the oldest stems to the ground each spring to encourage new growth. It has exceptionally low maintenance and is highly adaptable shrub. Excellent erosion‑control plant and ideal for rain gardens. Resistant to most pests and diseases, though occasional leaf spot can occur. Rapid growth once established.

Siting This Tree: Excellent for winter interest gardens, foundation plantings, and mixed borders. Perfect for mass plantings, hedges, screens, or naturalized sites. Works especially well in wet areas, rain gardens, pond edges, or low swales. Suitable for both residential landscapes and large‑scale restoration plantings. Avoid very dry, exposed locations unless irrigation is provided.
