Description

Acer saccharum ‘Silver Queen’ / Silver Queen Maple

Planting Points: A selection of Silver Maple with stronger branching and less breakage than the species. Faster growing than many shade trees. More upright and controlled form compared to standard Acer saccharum. Requires regular watering during establishment but adapts well afterward. Avoid excessive pruning; structure develops quickly and responds best to light corrective work. Silver Maple roots can be vigorous—provide appropriate spacing from pavement and structures. Not ideal for extremely dry, exposed sites without supplemental water.

Siting This Tree: Excellent large shade tree for expansive lawns or open landscapes. Works well in park settings, golf courses, or larger residential lots. Useful in areas with periodic moisture, such as near drainage swales. Avoid tight urban spaces or very close proximity to sidewalks due to root spread. Provides strong foliage contrast with its silvery underside—great for breezy, open exposures. Best used where fast growth and quicker canopy development are desired.
