Description
Ulmus × spp. Accolade® ‘Morton’ / Accolade Elm
Planting Points: One of the top-performing hybrid elms. Excellent Dutch Elm Disease (DED) resistance, rivaling leading American elm selections. Strong resistance to elm leaf beetles, with good tolerance of other elm pests. Classic vase-shaped to broad-oval canopy reminiscent of American elm, but more compact and symmetrical. Fast-growing, forming a dense canopy with strong branch attachments. Highly tolerant of urban heat, pollution, road salt, compacted soil, and drought. Attractive gray bark that becomes furrowed with age. Minimal pruning required; prune in late fall or winter to reduce disease vulnerability.
Siting This Tree: Ideal for boulevards, streetscapes, medians, and urban corridors. Well suited to parks, campuses, and commercial landscapes where durability is needed. Excellent residential shade tree for medium- to large‑sized yards. Performs strongly in challenging soils, windy sites, and high‑traffic areas. Avoid chronically wet, poorly drained sites.
