Description

Quercus × crimschmidt / Crimson Spire® Oak

Planting Points: A hybrid of Quercus robur (English Oak) × Quercus alba (White Oak), bred for narrow, columnar form, superior fall color, and improved pest and disease resistance. Strong central leader: naturally tight, upright habit with minimal pruning required. Excellent storm resistance with sturdy branching and dense leaf structure. Light to moderate acorn production; much cleaner than many large oaks. Very tolerant of urban conditions, including pollution, road salt, and compacted soils. Prune only during late fall to mid-winter to prevent oak wilt infection.

Siting This Tree: Ideal for narrow residential lots, boulevards, streetscapes, and tight urban corridors. Excellent vertical accent in formal landscapes, alleés, or flanking driveways. Perfect for screening where upward height is desired without excessive width. Performs well in parks, campuses, and commercial landscapes. Avoid planting in locations with consistently wet or poorly drained soil.
