PLANTING POINTS: This is the last blooming ornamental tree in the parade of color. Japanese Tree Lilac’s white flower clusters bloom in June. This tree also has a dark grey metallic bark with pronounced white lenticles which give year-round interest. A great urban tree that is very common in the urban setting because of its pollution and salt tolerance.
SITING THIS TREE: Japanese Tree Lilac handles dry sandy soils and drought conditions well. Avoid frequently wet feet with this tree. It will be vigorous and healthy in a wide range of soil types. Japanese Tree Lilac requires full sun the majority of the day.
