Description

Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis ‘Harve’ / Northern Acclaim® Honeylocust

Planting Points: Selected by North Dakota State University for exceptional cold hardiness, superior to most honey locust cultivars. Seedless and thornless, making it easy to maintain with minimal litter. Has a strong central leader and broad, arching canopy—more spreading than Street Keeper®, but tighter and more refined than Shademaster®. Very tolerant of drought, salt, pollution, wind, and urban compacted soils. Fine-textured foliage creates dappled, filtered shade, ideal for areas where turf or perennials need partial sunlight. Fast to moderate growth rate and excellent longevity. Pest-resistant, especially to common honey locust issues such as canker or leafhopper damage. Requires deep watering during establishment but becomes extremely low maintenance thereafter.

Siting This Tree: Excellent for northern climates, harsh prairie sites, and exposed windy areas. Great choice for boulevards, parks, streetscapes, and commercial landscapes. Works well in large residential yards as a shade tree with an open canopy. Ideal for parking lot islands and areas with reflected heat or soil compaction. Avoid planting in excessively wet or poorly drained soil.
