Description

Betula platyphylla ‘Jefpark’ / Parkland Pillar Birch

Planting Points: Selected for the northern prairie climate, offering exceptional cold hardiness. Strongly columnar form, even narrower than Dakota Pinnacle®—excellent for tight spaces. White bark develops early and brightens with maturity. Good resistance to bronze birch borer when grown in healthy, moist soils. Requires consistent moisture, especially during establishment; mulch helps maintain root-zone coolness. Prune only in late summer or fall to avoid sap bleeding. Fast-growing but maintains a tighter habit than many birch cultivars. Excellent structural tree when a tall, slender vertical element is needed.

Siting This Tree: Perfect for narrow urban or suburban spaces, where width is limited. Excellent as a vertical accent, screening line, or columnar grove. Works beautifully near water features, ponds, drainage corridors, or naturalized prairie plantings. Ideal for northern climates and regions with cold winters and low humidity. Avoid planting in hot, reflective sites or prolonged drought areas unless irrigation is available.
