Description

Tilia americana ‘Redmond’ / Redmond Linden

Planting Points: A vigorous and widely planted American linden cultivar selected for its large leaves, strong growth, and uniform pyramidal habit. Produces fragrant creamy‑yellow flowers in early summer—highly attractive to bees and beneficial insects. Dense foliage offers excellent shade. More tolerant of heat, pollution, and compacted soils than many lindens. Water regularly during establishment; moderate drought tolerance once mature. Prune only during dormant season (late fall–winter). Lindens can attract Japanese beetles in certain regions, though Redmond is less susceptible than Littleleaf Linden. Long‑lived and reliable—excellent municipal shade tree.

Siting This Tree: Ideal for large residential lots, parks, campuses, and boulevards. Excellent for avenues, formal plantings, and large open lawns. Provides strong shade and a stately, symmetrical appearance. Avoid deeply compacted or chronically wet areas. Not ideal for very narrow spaces—choose Boulevard or American Sentry® instead.
